Gary Roland Welch, 49, was executed at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary on the evening of January 5, 2012. His execution was the first scheduled in the United States that year. He was denied clemency after a hearing, where he took part by video from the prison and read a four-page written statement. Gary was 49 when he died.
