Gamboy Guaranda
Gamboy Guaranda, 33, was held at the New Haven Correctional Center in New Haven, Connecticut, when he died on April 16, 2026. A correction officer found him in his cell with a bedsheet tied around his neck, and he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a suicide. A state Inspector General report found that a correction officer was negligent in monitoring him but not criminally responsible, and said his cellmate allegedly extorted more than $5,000 from him, though the report could not determine whether this contributed to his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a suicide, and a state Inspector General report found that a correction officer was negligent in monitoring him.
Reported by: Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner); Connecticut Office of Inspector General (outside investigators).
