G. W. Mastin
G. W. Martin was taken from a jail and killed by armed men in August 1872, according to a Little Rock paper that drew on Memphis reports. A second account of the same killing, printed in Connecticut, says twelve armed men took him out of the jail on a Sunday night, led him a short distance away and shot him with buckshot. Neither account says which jail held him or whether jail staff resisted the men or handed him over. His death was reported alongside that of his wife, Emilie Martin, whose body was found in a pond.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. According to a Memphis special dispatch, twelve armed men took Martin from a jail and shot him with buckshot.
