Executed
Frisby Comegys
Frisby Conegys was one of four Black men hanged in the jail yard at Chestertown, Maryland, on January 13, 1893. A Record-Union account says he died from strangulation and went through severe convulsions on the scaffold. A Helena Independent account, using the spelling Comegys, describes a prolonged struggle before he died, and says the men had held a season of prayer together before walking to the scaffold. Both accounts say his body was buried in the potter's field that day.
