Frederick Jerome Williams
Frederick Jerome Williams, 31, was a Liberian-born man who lived in Lawrenceville and was the father of four children, aged 1 to 9. His family's attorney described him as an athletic man who did not drink or use drugs and had no known heart problems. Deputies at the Gwinnett County jail shocked him with a Taser and placed him in a restraint chair, and he died two days later in a hospital. The Gwinnett County medical examiner's office found no evidence that the Taser caused his death and attributed it to brain damage from a heart attack of uncertain cause, a explanation his family's attorney disputes.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed). The Gwinnett County medical examiner's office said he died of brain damage from a heart attack of uncertain cause and found no evidence the Taser caused it; his family's attorney disputes that account.
Reported by: Gwinnett County medical examiner's office (medical examiner or coroner); his family's attorney (family or their lawyers).
