Fred Hollar
Fred Hollar was held in the jail at Jacksonville, Illinois, in 1885. According to a Jacksonville dispatch printed in the 1886 Staunton Vindicator, a party of disguised men broke open the jail and shot him through the abdomen. Before he died, he insisted he had not done the act attributed to him. The Alexandria Gazette reported that a man who died in a Western state later confessed to that act.
