Franz Kroll
Franz Kroll was held at the Pend Oreille County Jail in Newport, Washington, when he died in August 2022. Earlier that day he told staff he felt bad and that his new medications were making him feel like he was dying, and he was taken to a hospital that morning, where, according to The Miner, staff found nothing wrong and he was returned to the jail. According to a Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office incident report, he was found hanging from a phone cord in his cell that Wednesday night, and EMS declared him dead at 10:30 p.m. The county has not released a cause of death, and the newspaper says it is still seeking records on how he died.
