Franklin Delano Floyd
Franklin Delano Floyd, 79, was held at Union Correctional Institution in northeast Florida for about two decades. An advocate who once represented him said he was severely mentally ill, and his supporters said his long legal case stalled because he was repeatedly found mentally incompetent. He died at the prison in January 2023; court records give January 23 as the date, while the Florida Department of Corrections lists January 20. The Department recorded the manner of death as natural, and a former attorney on his case described it the same way, but no cause of death was given.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness
Reported by: Florida Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); an attorney who once worked on his case.
