Died in jail or a lockup
Frank Rossimus
Frank Rossimus was held in the city jail at Middlesborough, Kentucky, when he died on July 17, 1891. Early that morning, a group of armed, masked men forced the jailer to hand over the keys, then took Rossimus from his cell. Newspaper accounts say the men shot him several times and hanged him from a bridge over the canal, leaving a placard on the rail above his body. Accounts differ on the details of the shooting, and the killing was reported as a lynching by a posse of armed citizens.
