Frank Mundy
Frank Mundy was one of two men who died early on Friday, November 17, 1893, when the bath house at the Pratt mines convict camp near Birmingham, Alabama, caught fire. He was held at the camp, and the Daily Public Ledger reported that he was burned to a crisp. According to that report, the men had soaked the building with coal oil and set it alight in an effort to escape, and guards stopped the escape and put out the flames, causing only slight damage to the building. A third man inside was rescued with serious injuries, and the report's account of how the fire started rests on that single newspaper report.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined. A newspaper account says the men soaked the bath house with coal oil and set it alight in an escape attempt, and that guards put out the flames.
