Died in jail or a lockup
Frank Howard
Frank Howard, a Black man, was one of three men held in the Wickliffe jail in early September 1901. Around ten o'clock one night, a group the newspaper described as friends of a man named Thomas got the jail keys without trouble, took the three men from their cells, and hanged them from a cross beam. The bodies were still hanging the next morning, were then cut down, and an inquest was held. A later report said the group included people who were not Black.
