Frank Hall

26 years old · died May 31, 1901 · Lookout Hotel, Modoc County, California

Frank Hall, 26, was one of Calvin Hall's three sons. Accounts of the night of May 31, 1901 say he and four other men were being held under guard at the Lookout hotel in Modoc County, California, awaiting examination, when a mob of thirty to fifty men broke in, took them from the guards and hanged them under a small bridge. The Indianapolis Journal reported that the guards were held at gunpoint, and a later dispatch said the officers were overpowered. Some reports say Frank resisted the mob, while others do not say whether the officers resisted, and the sources give different accounts of where the men were hanged and whether the guards helped.
