Frank Chance IV
Michael Williams, 63, was a family man who cared about his relatives and was ready to come home, according to his sister and niece. They spoke with him the day before he died and said he was in good spirits. In early July 2026 he was found unresponsive in his cell at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta, Georgia, and was pronounced dead at Piedmont Hospital. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen has said the cause of death is not yet known and an autopsy has been scheduled, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation. His family said they learned of his death through word of mouth rather than from official channels.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says his cellmate assaulted him, and the Richmond County Coroner's Office lists the cause as injuries from that assault.
Reported by: Richmond County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Richmond County Coroner's Office (medical examiner or coroner).
