Fou Sin

California

Fou Sin was a man held at the Amador County jail in California when he was hanged at the jail's gallows in 1858, according to the Amador Weekly Ledger. Before his execution he asked that his body not be taken by doctors after burial and that his tied hands be loosened before he was placed in his coffin. About ten days before his death he wrote a letter in Chinese to his father and brother in Hong Kong, which the paper said had literary merit. The paper reported that he appeared calm but serious, with tears on his cheeks when the cap was drawn over his face.
