Felipe Salaz
Felipe Sala was held in the jail at Canon City, Colorado, in July 1876. A dispatch datelined Canon City, printed in the New Orleans Republican, reported that a party of citizens forced the jail on the night of July 21 and hanged him along with another man. A National Republican dispatch gives the same account, and the Wilmington Journal reprinted a Colorado dispatch describing a jail forced at night and two men hanged. None of these accounts says whether the sheriff resisted the crowd or handed the men over, and the New Orleans Republican reports that the act was approved by everyone.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A Canon City dispatch says citizens forced the jail at night and hanged him, and the dispatch says everybody approved of the act.
Reported by: Canon City, Col. news dispatch (reporters); Carson City, Col. dispatch reprinted in the Wilmington Journal (reporters); National Republican dispatch from Canon City (reporters).
