F. V. Moore
F. V. Moore was found in agony in his jail cell early on the morning of October 16, 1857, and died before a doctor arrived. The newspaper, citing good authority, reported that strychnine, which it said he had obtained and taken himself, caused his death, and that his stomach contents were being analyzed. His wife said she had begged him not to die by his own hand and had told the sheriff about other means he had hidden in the cell. The paper also reported rumors that the Rev. Father Dalton had hastened his death, and said it rejected them.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). The newspaper, citing good authority, says he obtained and took strychnine himself; his wife says she told the sheriff about other means he had hidden in the cell, which the sheriff did not act on.
Reported by: the newspaper, citing good authority (reporters); his wife.
