Evan Broderick
Evan Broderick, 20, was from Sonoma County and was held at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, California. Prison authorities said he was found in a prison yard on the morning of May 11, 2009, and pronounced dead at 10:09 a.m., and they suspected two fellow prisoners of stabbing him. A 2013 report on court proceedings described him being stabbed with a makeshift knife and beaten on an exercise yard in the Security Housing Unit, and the case was investigated by the state Department of Corrections, the Office of the Inspector General and the Kern County District Attorney's Office. Three staff members were examined after exposure to blood.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. Prison authorities suspect two fellow inmates stabbed him, and a court later heard that other people held there stabbed him 24 times.
