Eugenia Maurice Mitchell
Eugenia Maurice Mitchell, 31, of Alexandria, died on June 4, 2024, while held at the Rapides Parish Detention Center 1 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Authorities say she was found unresponsive in a dorm around 1 a.m. and was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later. The sheriff's office says the apparent cause was an opioid overdose and that another person in the facility allegedly smuggled fentanyl in and gave it to her. An autopsy is pending to confirm the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing.
