Eugene High Hawk, 59, was held in the Pennington County Jail in South Dakota. The sheriff's office said he was found unresponsive around noon on March 12, 2023, and was taken to Monument Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office said a preliminary autopsy pointed to natural causes, with final results still pending. The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death.
