Ervin Edwards, 38, died on the night of Tuesday, November 26, 2013, while held at the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail in Port Allen, Louisiana. According to Sheriff Mike Cazes, staff found him unresponsive in a holding cell less than 30 minutes after he was brought to the facility. His girlfriend and mother said they had told police not to use a Taser on him because he had high blood pressure and other medical conditions. The sheriff said officers and deputies had no choice, and his family said jail officials had not given them details of how he died.
