Ernesto Alonzo Amaro
Ernesto Alonzo Amaro, 44, of Uvalde, died on August 13, 2025, after being held at the Uvalde County Jail. According to the sheriff's office, he collapsed on a bench on the morning of August 12 after being taken from his cell to see a magistrate judge, and EMS took him to the hospital, where he died about 10.5 hours after the medical distress began. Officials have not released a cause of death, and the sheriff's office has asked the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation.
