Ernest Nichols
Ernest Nichols, 60, worked for a school district for 14 years, including as a physical education teacher at a middle school in north Charlotte, and was married with two children. He was found dead beside his bunk in a dormitory at Greene Correctional Institution in Maury, North Carolina, on the morning of Sunday, October 5, 2025. The Department of Adult Correction says a fellow prisoner killed him, and that person has been moved to another facility. The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death as a homicide, and the cause has not been determined until the autopsy is complete.
