Senator Jon Ossoff named Ernest Hunter in a January 2022 statement urging the Senate to confirm nominees to a civil rights cold case review board. According to Ossoff, Hunter was killed in 1958 while held at the Camden County Jail. The jail is in St. Mary's, in Camden County, Georgia.
