Eric Snow
Eric Snow, 30, of Bridgewater, died at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Massachusetts in March 2012, where he was being held before trial. The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and the district attorney's office said he apparently killed himself by suffocating with a plastic bag, and they were awaiting toxicology results and said there was no sign of foul play. Snow's lawyer said he had spent more than four years in isolation and had repeatedly asked to be moved out of it, and that he wrote in a grievance on Feb. 26, "I have been in the hole for so long it is eating me alive." The lawyer and advocates say the length of his isolation broke him psychologically and was cruel and unjustified.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). Authorities called the death an apparent suicide, and his attorney Gerald T. Fitzgerald agreed; his former attorney said he had spent years in isolation and repeatedly asked to be moved out of it, and advocates called that isolation cruel and unjustified.
Reported by: Plymouth County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Plymouth County District Attorney's Office; Massachusetts State Police (outside investigators); his attorney, Gerald T. Fitzgerald (family or their lawyers); Boston Globe report, as quoted by Solitary Watch (reporters).
