37 years old · died August 27, 2023 · Bexar County Adult Detention Center, Bexar County, Texas

Emmanuel Armando Mora, who was 37, died on August 27, 2023 while held at the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, Texas. He was brought in the Sunday night before and went through booking at the Justice Intake and Assessment Annex, and his family says he left behind two children, a 12-year-old and an infant. The sheriff's office said a struggle with deputies, a Taser use and restraint came before he became unresponsive, and that preliminarily he suffered a medical episode worsened by preexisting substance use, with the medical examiner to determine the cause. His family has sued two deputies, alleging they restrained him face-down with his legs folded up for more than three minutes and used unnecessary lethal force. A custodial death report lists drug intoxication as the cause and homicide as the manner, and an official investigation is ongoing.
