17 years old · died August 31, 2015 · Miami-Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Center, Miami-Dade County, Florida

Elord Revolte was 17 when he died in August 2015 at the Miami-Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Center, where he was held. Federal prosecutors say he was beaten by other youths after a detention officer, Antwan Lenard Johnson, encouraged the assault in exchange for rewards, and that he died at a hospital a day after the attack. Johnson was indicted on federal civil rights charges and has not entered a plea, while a state inspector general's report found staff failed to alert medical staff promptly and that he did not reach a hospital until nearly 24 hours after the assault. Miami-Dade police have investigated the death as a homicide, and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice said its staff was saddened by his sudden death.
