Ellis Craft
Ellis Craft was executed by hanging in Grayson, Kentucky, in the early afternoon, according to a Grayson dispatch published in the Narragansett Herald in October 1883. The Gloucester County Democrat reported the hanging at Grayson, and both dispatches say he declared his innocence before he was hanged, with the Narragansett Herald saying he did so from the scaffold. A later account published in April 1885 gives the date of his execution as August 1883, which differs from the October dates in the 1883 dispatches.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. Ellis Craft declared his innocence from the scaffold, as reported by a Grayson, Kentucky dispatch.
