Ella Williams, a Black woman, was one of four people who, according to a Savannah, Georgia dispatch in The Times, were taken from deputies by a mob while being moved to a jail near Crosby, Alabama, in the summer of 1891. The dispatch said her body was found in the Chattahoochee River and that the other three were believed to have drowned there as well. The account comes from an unnamed correspondent and does not say how the mob got them from the deputies, so whether the deputies resisted or handed them over is not stated.
