Elias Angel Rivera
Elias Angel Rivera, 37, of Oakland, was held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California. His cellmate activated the emergency call button shortly before midnight on March 17, 2025, and deputies found him with serious head injuries and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on March 18. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death as a homicide and in April 2025 named his cellmate as a suspect. Accounts differ on details: one report said the cellmate told deputies he had struck Rivera, and the sheriff's office has not given a motive.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. Alameda County Sheriff's Office says his cellmate killed him, and that the cellmate told deputies he punched, stomped and kicked Rivera's head.
Reported by: Alameda County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held him.
