His brother Isaí described him as a calm, good man who knew the Bible well and wanted to share his faith, and others held at Stewart Detention Center said he was friendly and quiet with staff. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and CoreCivic, which runs the facility, concluded that he died by suicide in a solitary confinement cell, while his family and attorney say he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, dispute the adequacy of the facility's care, classification and checks on him, and say staff falsified logs before his death.
