Edwards

Edwards was held in the Clarksville, Georgia jail before his execution on October 13, 1887. Before it, he was taken to a pond built near the jail, where he professed his faith and was baptized by his spiritual adviser, the Rev. Thomas Scott, while Sheriff Gastley and armed guards were present. A hymn was sung and a prayer offered, and he showed emotion only as he came out of the water, exclaiming 'glory glory to God.' He was then returned to the jail until he was taken to be executed.
