Died in jail or a lockup
Edward Williams
A mob took Edward Williams from the jail at Baiboursville, West Virginia, and hanged him from a tree in the court house yard, according to The Abbeville Press And Banner, which reported the killing in March 1876. The paper says the mob forced the jailer to hand over the keys. Williams was held in the jail with another prisoner when the crowd gathered outside, and the account says he died about fifteen minutes after being taken.
