Edward Robinson

49 years old · died December 16, 2022 · New Jersey State Prison, Mercer County, New Jersey

Edward Robinson was a writer who kept poems, fiction and a journal, and his cousin Darlene Morris and partner Shawana Gatlin remember him as intelligent, articulate and loving toward his family. He died on 16 December 2022 at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, where he was held alone in a restorative housing unit. According to an autopsy by Middlesex County deputy medical examiner Lauren P. Thoma, the cause was a heart attack. Video reviewed by the medical examiner shows he sat on his cell toilet for about four hours before staff found him slumped over, and an outside psychiatrist said inadequate monitoring and mental health care may have contributed; his family disputes the psychiatric diagnoses he was given.
