Ed Hartley
Ed Hartley was held in the Camden jail in Camden, Tennessee, when a mob came for him at about midnight on October 19, 1922. According to a report in the Cordele Dispatch and Daily Sentinel, between twenty and fifty men with blackened faces overpowered Sheriff Flowers and took Hartley from the jail. They marched him about two hundred yards to a vacant lot and shot him to death.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob took Ed Hartley from the Camden jail, overpowered Sheriff Flowers, and shot him in a vacant lot.
