Earl McEntire
Earl McEntire was a Vietnam-era U.S. Army veteran who had spent about 30 years in prison and was close to going home. Over several months in 2021 he lost much weight and became confused and incontinent, and an article author who witnessed his care inside the prison says he was repeatedly told to drink more water when he asked to see a doctor. He was taken to an outside hospital only in November, where doctors found advanced cancer that had spread throughout his body. He died at Moberly Correctional Center on December 11, 2021, shortly before a medical parole he had been approved for was to take effect, and the cause of death given is the cancer, while the delay in care is attributed to the article's account of the prison's response.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The article's author, who witnessed his care inside the prison, says stage 4 cancer had spread throughout his body and that prison staff repeatedly told him to drink water when he asked to see a doctor.
