Earl Forrest
Earl Forrest, 66, was executed by lethal injection on May 11, 2016, at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre, Missouri. His adult daughter was among the witnesses, and he mouthed words to her as the execution began, but he declined to make a final statement. The Missouri Department of Corrections said he was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m. In a final filing to the U.S. Supreme Court, he argued that the death penalty violates the Eighth Amendment's ban on cruel and unusual punishment, and the court denied his request to halt the execution. Governor Jay Nixon declined to grant clemency hours before the execution.
