Dustin Keith Payne
Dustin Payne, 38, was held at Central Prison in Raleigh, North Carolina, when he was found collapsed in a common area of his housing unit on April 11, 2024. The state Department of Adult Correction said he had been assaulted by another person held there, and that staff gave emergency care before a physician pronounced him dead shortly after 8:30 p.m. State Capitol Police are investigating, and the department said it will conduct its own internal investigation.
