Died in jail or a lockup
Dr. G. W. Harden
Dr. G. W. Harden was held at the jail at Warrenton, according to The Native Virginian. On the night of March 13, 1869, a party of disguised men took him from the jail, carried him some distance from town, and shot him to death. The paper linked the killing to an earlier dispute in which Charles Wallace, editor of the Warrenton Clipper, was shot and killed the day before. The account names no one responsible for either death.
