64 years old · died November 28, 2021 · Holman Correctional Facility, Escambia County, Alabama

Doyle Lee Hamm was 64 when he died on November 28, 2021, while held at Holman Prison in Alabama. His longtime attorney, Bernard Harcourt, said Hamm had suffered for years from an aggressive lymphatic cancer and described him as generous, forgiving and able to stay positive even in dire circumstances. In 2018 his lethal injection was called off when staff could not find a suitable vein, and he remained in custody afterward. The Alabama Department of Corrections said he apparently died of complications from a terminal illness, that no foul play was suspected, and that an autopsy would determine the exact cause.
