Dorothy Hereford
Dorothy Hereford, 22, died in October 1935 at the Fort Worth city jail, which was housed in the basement of city hall. She had been taken into custody at a Fort Worth department store and placed in a women's cell, and about two hours later a matron found her hanging from a water pipe with a strip torn from her blanket. Police recorded the death as suicide. Her husband, T.E. Hereford, identified her and arranged her burial at Greenwood Cemetery, where he was the only mourner, and her grave is reported to be unmarked. Police records and FBI fingerprints gave conflicting identities for her, a dispute that is reported but not resolved.
