Donnel Geoffrey Brown
Donnel Geoffrey Brown, 40, died in his cell at Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina, on November 7, 2023. He was found around 10 a.m. with multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and chest. The South Carolina Department of Corrections said his cellmate killed him and confessed to staff, and that a homemade knife was found after the stabbing. Arrest warrants signed in February 2024 by the department's Office of the Inspector General charge the cellmate with murder and say officers saw him with the knife and arguing with other people held in his unit. The Inspector General's office and the Richland County Coroner's office are investigating.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. The South Carolina Department of Corrections says his cellmate stabbed him to death, according to arrest warrants from the department's Inspector General's office.
