Dominic Landreth
Dominic Landreth, 20, died in August 2016 while held at the Davis County Jail in Utah. His mother, Kristen Landreth, describes him as a free spirit who suffered from depression and wanted a second chance, and says the jail and courts failed to help him with his depression. A guard found him hanging in a shower stall on August 22, 2016, after noticing he was not in his cell. His parents' death certificate lists suicide, while sheriff's reports obtained by the family list no cause of death, and the Unified Police Department's investigation was awaiting toxicology results. The county attorney said the sheriff's office did not notify his office of the death, as required when someone dies in custody.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (disputed; neglect alleged). The death certificate lists suicide, but his family's account says the jail and courts failed to help him with his depression and that he should have been protected, and the Unified Police Department's investigation was awaiting toxicology results.
Reported by: Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings (court); Davis County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); death certificate provided by his parents; Unified Police Department (outside investigators); his mother.
