Dick Wood
Dick Wood, known across western Texas according to press dispatches from Eagle Pass, was in the custody of the Dimmit County sheriff in June 1881 while being taken toward Carrizo. Vigilantes took him from the sheriff and shot him to death, as reported in several newspapers dated June 30, 1881. One dispatch gives June 26 as the date of death, while others leave the day unclear. The accounts disagree on how the sheriff responded, and the sheriff's own account is not in these reports.
