Derrick Leysath, 22, died on May 15, 2026, while held at FCI Petersburg Medium, a federal prison in Hopewell, Virginia, where he had been since April 29. The Federal Bureau of Prisons said staff found him unresponsive in his cell around 3:45 p.m. The Department of Justice reported the death and said no one else was injured.
