Derrick Ellis
Derrick Ellis, 63, of Jersey City, was held in the medical unit of the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny. On March 21, 2025, he was found unresponsive in his cell, and officers and medical staff gave him aid before he was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1:30 p.m. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is investigating, and no cause or manner of death has been released.
