Derek Baker
Derek Baker, 56, was held at San Diego Central Jail in March 2022 and was placed in a shared cell. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, another person held at the jail attacked him about eight days later, and he spent several weeks in the hospital in critical condition. Baker died on March 29, 2022, and the autopsy found that he died of blunt-force injuries to his head, which the sheriff's department has described as a homicide. Prosecutors said they plan to bring a murder charge against the man they accuse of the attack.
