Deran Vasquez
Deran Vasquez, 37, died in September 2021 after being held at the Albany County Detention Center in Laramie, Wyoming. A Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation report said he attempted suicide by hanging in his cell on the night of September 13, after the 10 p.m. lockdown, when no staff were monitoring his pod directly. According to the report, other people held in the pod spent 10 to 15 minutes trying to alert deputies before they arrived. He was taken to a hospital, placed on life support in Colorado, and died several days later. The sheriff said the response window has since been shortened.
