Deonte Bennett, 27, died on January 5, 2016, at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl, where he was held. According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, he was found unconscious in his cell in the early morning, and emergency responders were unable to revive him. The department said it is investigating and that an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, which has not yet been reported.
