David Stephenson
David Stephenson, 44, volunteered as an American Sign Language interpreter on the Deaf Studies Advisory Board of Frederick Community College and with the Frederick County Commission on Disabilities, and in 1996 he founded an organization supporting the deaf community, including sponsoring the Deaf Olympics and youth athletic leagues. He was found dead in his cell at Jessup Correctional Institution in Maryland in the early hours of November 2, 2018, after officers entered and found him with obvious trauma. Maryland State Police said they were investigating his death as an apparent homicide and that another man held at the same prison had been identified, though not charged. Prosecutors later said he died of strangulation and blunt and sharp force trauma, and the motive has not been established.
