David Mireles
David Mireles, 53, of Shafter, was released from the Santa Barbara County Main Jail in August 2026 and reported missing later that day. His body was found on August 27 in brush on a hillside a few hundred feet from the jail, and investigators believe he had been there since about the time of his release. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said he had multiple medical conditions, and the Coroner's Bureau is investigating the cause and manner of death, with no sign of foul play so far. Family members said he had existing health conditions and was released without his wallet, phone, or ID.
